Tamenglong CSOs threaten to intensify stir if DC not removed

IMPHAL, February 8: The Joint Frontal Development Organizations (JFDO) Tamenglong District, a forum formed by several CSOs, today burnt the effigy of Deputy Commissioner of the district demanding his removal.

Meanwhile, a public meeting held at the market shed prior to the burning of the effigy also resolved to launch a series of democratic form of agitations including banning of all national projects in the district, if the authority concerned fails to fulfil the demand within a few days.

It is pertinent that the JFDO served an ultimatum demanding the removal of the present DC Tamenglong Marenchand Luikham, alleging of being incompetent while discharging his duties.

With the ultimatum having expired last Saturday, the JFDO convened a meeting today to further mount pressure on the government and discuss its further course of action.

According to JFDO it alleged that the Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong Marenchand Luikham has failed to look after the district grievances and lack administrative transparency with the general public and his subordinates.

Claiming that central sponsored schemes/funds are not implemented accordingly, it further alleged the DC of being non-cooperative.

The DC remained indifferent to the aspiration of the people for the propose construction of “Apui Thiankai” market shed at main bazaar Tamenglong district headquarter which is funded by the Ministry of Development of North- Eastern Region (DoNER), North- Eastern Council (NEC), Govt of India, it said.

It further maintained that the DC had denied access to public and social leaders during the office hour adding that all the government offices/ section offices in the district are non- functional except for few District Level Officer (DLOs) and the present administrator has no will to improve the functioning of the departmental offices in the district.

The deplorable condition of the roads connecting the district, hardship being faced by the students community while acquiring their tribe certificate, domicile, income certificate, etc. are some of testimonies of the district authority being incompetent, it further lamented.

On the other hand, the JFDO pointed out that the DC Tamenglong as the chairman of the District Disaster Management Committee had not only failed to visit the epi-centre of the January 4 earthquake- Kabuikhullen (Lonjang) village, Tousem HQ, Tamei HQ, but failed to provide immediate relief material to all the affected people.
