BSAPDC condemns kidnap

KANGPOKPI, March 28: Bungpi-Sanakeithel Area Peace and Development Committee (BSAPDC) today condemned the reported kidnaping of a truck driver engaged in the PMGSY work for Sanakeithel-Leisan Road construction on March 3.

The committee further appealed for the safe release of the victim.

A press statement of the committee signed by its president, H Haopu said that Bungpi-Sanakeithel area is a peaceful and harmonious place where all irrespective of communities settled cordially with mutual respect and understanding.

He continued that the committee has been always working tirelessly to maintain peace, development and welfare of the people in the area.

He said that on March 3 unknown armed miscreants abducted a truck driver identified as Ashang Tangkhul, son of (L) Mangamleng of Pharung Village in Ukhrul district from Songphel Quarry at around 11:30 am and demanded a huge ransom while adding that the abducted truck driver was engaged in the PMGSY work of Sanakeithel-Leisan road construction.

While concerning the alleged frequent disruption of developmental works undertaken in the area, the committee also condemned the frequent abduction, kidnapping and disruption of developmental works.

“We feel most unfortunate over the abduction and disruption of developmental work in the area since it could derail the peaceful environment as well as mutual understanding and respect of the people”, the committee’s chairman added.

He also said that the people of the area are also against such activities which can hamper development and peaceful co-existence.

The committee also appealed for the safe release of the truck driver on humanitarian ground in the interest of the prevailing peaceful coexistence and development of the area.
