Gopal Sharma Award presented to K Prakash

IMPHAL, March 21: As part of World Poetry Day, Sahitya Thoupang Lup today present the Gopal Sharma Award-2016 to Khumanthem Prakash Singh in a function held at Dave Literature Centre located at DM College campus.

The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation, a memento and a shawl.

The PDA chairman T Mangibabu Singh attended as chief guest, MLA K Meghajit Singh attended as guest of honour and eminent critic professor N Tombi Singh attended president respectively.

Khumanthem Prakash started writing his short stories and poems during his college life.

In 1954, he won first prize in the short-story writing competition organised by DM college for his “cha glass ama” (a glass of tea) written on a revolutionary theme.

Prakash won the best lyrics award in the first Manipur State film festival, 1984 for the film Olang Thagi Wangmadasu. Some of his notable books are Ichegi Sham (sister’s hair), Mangi Eshei (song of dreams), Eshei Pareng (garland of songs), Eiffel Tower Makhonda Kanglei Thokpa etc.

He received Sahitya Akademi Award in 1986 for his book of short stories, Mangi Eshei.

A poetry reading was held and a film title Khunjinda Yotpi was shown as part of the programme.
