IMPHAL, February 29: The Indian Olympic Association and the Government of India haven’t yet given any recognition to the Indigenous games of the State, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh observed today in the House.
The leader of the House who also holds the Youth Affairs and Sports portfolio was clarifying to cut motions raised by Opposition MLAs during Discussion and Voting on Demands for Grants on Demand No 25- Youth Affairs and Sports Department.
He said both the GoI and the IOA haven’t recognised the indigenous games of the State namely thang-ta, mukna and kang; however, the government has provided financial assistance in order to safeguard the indigenous games from extinction and to promote them.
Steps are on to complete the Takmu Regional Water Sports Complex at the earliest, the Chief Minister informed the House adding further that the construction was delayed following complaints that the construction has encroached on some private lands.
He also informed the House that the Sports Authority of India has also urged the government to allow them to use the complex.
The Chief Minister also informed that the project for the roof of the Hockey Stadium, Khuman Lampak will also be completed within May 2016.
