Ringui village celebrates Luira Phanit

IMPHAL, March 12: Ringui Village in Ukhrul district is celebrating a four day long Luira Phanit (seed showing festival of Tangkhul) starting from March 10 to March 13.

The inaugural function of day three, today, was attended by special contractor khasim Vashum as chief guest, Imphal International Airport, Airport Authority of India Airport Director SVT Dhanamjaya Rao as guest of honour and Imphal International Airport, Additional General Manager, Chepemi Keishing, DGM (civil) Jagir Singh and OIC ACS Pinaki Banerjee attended as guests of honour respectively.

Extending his support to the village, the special contractor donated 50 cement bags to the village authority for construction of the Village Office building, while Dhanamjaya also extended some financial assistance.

Village headman Atem A Shimray lauded the dignitaries for coming and supporting in the festival.

Cultural dances, skit play, cultural songs and scripture readings were the main events of the festival.

Speaking to media persons, oranising committee chairman Ashing Zimik said that Luira Phanit is an annual festival of the Tangkhuls.

The festival is organised to start seed sowing with permission of the village headman and the farmers pray to God to bring a good harvest, he added.
