Sharmila released from judicial custody, continues hunger strike

IMPHAL, February 29: Anti Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 crusader Irom Chanu Sharmila was released by the court today around 3pm.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today released Sharmila from judicial custody after her detention period ended today.

However, following her prior appeal to the court not to hand her over to any of her family members or guardians upon her release which the court had granted, Sharmila was released alone and not handed over to anyone.

Sharmila continued her fast at the foot of the Shahid Minar at BT Road this afternoon.

It may be mentioned that Sharmila has been summoned to make physical appearance before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala Court in New Delhi on March 29 and 30.
