Sit in denounces monetary demand on Mekola PHC

BISHNUPUR, March 12: Locals of Mekola today staged a sit in protest at the local bazar shed against the monetary demand served on the Primary Health Centre Mekola and Mekola Veterinary Hospital by the KCP (Mangal) faction.

The protest demonstration was staged by 23 local youth clubs of the area against the Rs 20 lakh demand on the PHC and another Rs 10 lakh demand against the veterinary hospital.

It may be mentioned that in the wake of the monetary demands made, the PHC and the veterinary hospital have closed down as the staffs have stop attending their duties.

Speaking to this correspondent at the site of the protest,Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat ward no 8 member W Tababi Devi said the closure of the PHC is creating much inconvenience for the ailing people and during times of medical emergency, since doctors and other staffs have stop attending due to the monetary demands.

She said the doctors and other staffs should be allowed to work freely without any threat.

There is also a need for a collective effort of the people to solve the present problem, she added.

Mekola Youth Association president T Ranjit said the opening of a 24×7 health centre in the locality has benefitted only the people of the area and if the government decides to shift the centre to a more secure place considering the present situation or if the centre closes down permanently, it is only the people who will suffer.

The closure of the centre has also hindered the routine and scheduled vaccination of newly born babies, he added.

He further appealed to the underground outfit to withdraw the demand in the interest of the common people.

Today’s sit in protest was attended by people of Lairenjam, Mekola and Kodompokpi among others.
