IMPHAL, March 15: Under training sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors of the Manipur Police department staged a protest this morning at the Manipur Police training Centre, Pangei demanding their Passing Out Parade at the earliest.

The protestors came out of their barracks and closed the main gate of the training college and even blocked the road.

During the protests, the under training personnel even argued with their instructors; however, officials of the training college managed to control them.

NNN adds: A protest was staged by 376 under training Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors at Manipur Police Training Centre (MPTC), Pangei in Imphal East against the Manipur Home Department for allegedly delaying their passing out parade.

Reports said one police personnel was thrashed by the protesters during a skirmish.

One of the protesters who did not want to be named said the 376 SIs and ASIs have already finished their training period on February 16. He said their demand for holding the passing out parade before the upcoming Yaoshang (Holi) festival was declined.

Displeased by the delaying, they protested, he added.

Additional Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram in-charge of the police training centre rushed to the site to pacify them.

One of the police personnel escorting the SP was roughed up by a group of protesters during a skirmish. The police officer later managed to quell the agitation.
