IMPHAL, March 10: US Consul General, Craig Hall has assured to initiate steps to popularise baseball in Manipur.

The consul general who was interacting with young baseball players of the State and the coaches of the Manipur Amateur Baseball Association at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today said he was pleasantly surprised to see girls in the State playing baseball as he had arrived with the perception that Manipur was more interested in football or soccer.

He said witnessing the young girls play the game in Imphal made him feel like coming home today.

He added seeing the young girls play the game in Imphal reminded him of his own childhood when he use to play baseball.

Replying to a query raised to him about an American woman coming to Manipur some three-four years to popularise baseball in Manipur, Hall said people in the States were not much aware of the story or that there are baseball players in Manipur.

He said now he has to look into the scene in the State, so that he may take back the story to America and help in spreading the word that people of Manipur also play the game.

This is such an inspiring experience, he said of his present visit to the State.

He said actually relationship among the different people and the ties they share are something that the governments cannot always organise, and such have to come out naturally although the US and India are enjoying strong relations.
