IMPHAL, April 20: Following reports of Okram Henry being named in the charge-sheet submitted by the CBI in the case regarding seizure of a huge quantity of drugs at Imphal Airport in 2013, supporters of the Wangkhei Assembly Constituency former candidate have appealed to the people not to blindly believe allegations of drug smuggling leveled against Henry.
The Election Committee of 15-Wangkhei AC of Okram Henry called a press conference in this regard at his Mantripukhri residence today.
Speaking to media persons, spokesperson N Imo said that the charge-sheet is not a verdict of the law court.
No one is able to prove Henry’s involvement in the drug seizure case till date, he added.
He said Henry had already clarified in 2013 that he is not involved in the drug smuggling case.
The CBI charge-sheet is like an attempt to politically assassinate Henry by his rivals as the IMC election and the State Legislative Assembly Elections are getting nearer, he claimed.
The committee further appealed to the people of Wangkhei not to spread propaganda without any evidence of Henry’s involvement in the drug seizure case.
The charges leveled against Henry are unfounded and baseless allegations, he claimed.
A member of the committee Hazi Arafa also said that this could be a conspiracy of the rivals to make Henry ineligible for the coming election.
