Boy shot at by militant suspects

KANGPOKPI, April 22: A student of the Manipur Public School, Koirengei sustained a bullet injury on his abdomen when suspected armed militant fired several rounds of bullet at Shantipur Hardware, Kanglatongbi at around 5:40 pm this evening under Sekmai police station in Imphal West.

The injured victim identified as Rakesh Saha, 16, son of (L) Dadan Saha was immediately brought to Imphal for medical care.

He is a student of Class XI at MPS, Koirengei.

A reliable source said that armed miscreants suspected to be Kuki militants who came in silver coloured Maruti Astar shot several rounds of bullet inside the hardware shop and fled after committing the crime towards Kangpokpi side.

According to sources, though the whole registration number of the involved vehicle cannot be identified, the last four digit number has been identified as 5745.

However, another unconfirmed source reported that the miscreants shot the boy after he shouted for help when they tried to kidnap him from uncle, identified as Madan, shop popularly known as Shantipur Hardware.

Few empty cases of small arms and another empty cases suspected to be of AK rifle were recovered from the site, said the source while it is suspected the incident to be of monetary demand.
