IMPHAL, April 3: The Churachandpur District Hospital will be upgraded to a medical college by the mid of 2017, for which the state authority is well equipped and waiting for the release of fund from the Central Government, said Director State Health Services Dr O Ibomcha Singh.
The director stated this on the sideline of an inspection tour conducted today at the district hospital.
Further speaking to media persons, the immediate purpose of today’s inspection was to check the feasibility for early establishment of infrastructures required to become a medical college.
The proposal for upgradation of CCpur district hospital to a medical college has already been approved by the state cabinet and Detailed Project Report (DPR) amounting to Rs 200 crores has been submitted to the Central Government, said Dr Ibomcha.
Claiming that the department is continuously persuading the central Government for early sanction of funds, he hoped that the fund allocation may come into effect in mid-term of 2017.
Noting that the medical college initially will have 100 seats for medical candidates, the Director appealed all section of society to extend their co-operation in materialising the proposed move of the Government.
Installation of Sick New Born Care Unit, in short known as SNCU, at the district hospital, will be the first priority of the department, said Dr Ibomcha citing Manipur’s achievement in minimising infant mortality rate.
In addition to that, upgradation of paediatrics ward of the district Hospital with equip modern technology, expansion of labour room, identification of site for construction of skill lab will also soon be initiated, he said.
Even as the main incinerator to dispose the bio-hazard remains and other medical waste is yet to be installed, a smaller version of the machine is currently being utilised for the time being, said the Health Director.
The dialysis machine installed in the hospital which is yet to operational would also be made functional for which concern medical staff is sorted for training, continued the Director.
After having minutely inspected the non working condition of the CT scan machine, maternity ward, labour room, nurse hostel and surrounding of the hospital, Dr Ibomcha informed that the maximum of deteriorating condition of the hospital will soon be fixed or either renovated.
According to the Director, there is a shortage of about 5 lakh doctors in India and inorder to meet the deficit the Central Government has come up with the upgradation of Hospitals to medical colleges.
Fortunately, the Churachandpur District Hospital has also been chosen by the central Government.
