Contractual staffs’ protest forces RIMS to cancel viva-voce for fresh recruitment

IMPHAL, April 15: A large number of non-teaching contractual staffs of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today protested today vandalising the Administrative block and obstructed a recruitment interview underway at the Jubilee Hall before locking down both the A-block and the hall.

The viva-voce for the recruitment of 130 regular posts of lab technicians, data entry, computer operator, electricians, storekeepers and tailor of the RIMS was underway at the Jubilee hall today.

However, the process had to be stopped midway and postponed indefinitely due to the pressure from the agitators under the Non-Teaching Employees Welfare Association of RIMS. The agitators, while claiming that the authorities have neglected the 285 non-teaching contractual staffs of the institute, were protesting against the fresh recruitment process.

Speaking to media persons, a member of the association said that the staffs on contract basis have been neglected by the authorities by conducting recruitment for fresh staff. This is condemnable, he said.

The contractual staffs who have been working in the institute since as long as 10-15 years have submitted several memorandums to the authorities concerned to absorb them as regular staffs, said the agitators.

Despite the demands of the contractual staff, RIMS issued a notification on January 2016 seeking fresh recruitment for 134 regular posts, they lamented.

Of the 134 posts, the authorities appointed four on PWD quotas, which the contractual staffs had not opposed, they said.

They have been demanding the authorities to regularise them before conducting any fresh recruitment posts, they asserted.

They further warned that until and unless their demands are satisfied, they will continue to agitate and not allow the conduct of any job interview in the institute.
