Court admits case against misappropriation of funds in RIMS dental college

IMPHAL, April 21: The charge sheet hearing of the funds misappropriation of dental chairs in RIMS Dental College will begin on May 18 at the Cheirap Court, Imphal.

The CBI had framed a charge sheet against five individuals including former Director of RIMS in connection with the case.

In this connection the Special Judge- Prevention of Corruption Act, Imphal West, Manoj, today has admitted the case subsequent upon the submission of the charge sheet by CBI on March 31.

The accused against whom the charge sheet was frame included former RIMS Director, Dr Sekharjit Singh, RIMS finance office cum advisor Elangbam Devendro Meitei of RIMS quarter Type V/15 Lamphel, former Medical Superintendent Dr Haobam Shanti of Wangkhei Khunou, principal of RIMS Dental College Dr Rajib Ratna Singh of West Bengal and proprietor of M/S Mukherjee Enterprises Kolkata Subhindar Mekherjee of West Bengal.

It may be noted that the five individuals in the charge sheet were alleged to have misappropriated Rs 50 Lakhs.

It has been alleged that the five during the period from January 2013 to June 2013 entered into a criminal conspiracy and in pursuance thereof managed to purchase 38 dental chairs and other accessories for the Dental College and Hospital of RIMS at an inflated rate of Rs 3, 75, 000 per chair.

It has been illuminated that the same standard of chairs were available in the market at Rs 131 Lakhs per chair thereby causing loss to the tune of more than Rs 50 Lakhs and corresponding wrongful gain to the suppliers/themselves.

Four of the five accused implicated in the charge sheet including the former Director of RIMS appeared before the court today.
