DESAM alleges funds for newly started vocational degree courses misused

IMPHAL, April 17: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today visited Nambol Sanoi College and inspected the newly established vocational courses of National Skill Qualification Framework under UGC.

Speaking to media persons at their office, DESAM secretary general N Edison Meitei said that a four member team of DESAM inspected the newly establish vocational degree courses for software development and sericulture of national skill qualifications framework (NSQF) under UGC at the college.

Edison said that the two courses were started from the academic session 2015-2016 at an estimate project cost of Rs 1. 85 crore.

The college authority has set up B Voc committee for implementation of this project, he said.

He alleged that about Rs 65 lakhs was found utilised from the total estimate project amount while about Rs 25 lakhs has been misappropriated by the committee.

He further claimed that only 25 seats were selected out of total intended 50 seats for sericulture while only 15 seats were selected out of intended 25 total seats for software.

Edison further alleged that the committee also did not appoint new staffs for the said courses despite funds being sanctioned to do so.

DESAM has appealed to the concerned authority not to release the remaining amount until the committee produces proper utilization certificates before the public.
