JCILPS verifies migrant workers

IMPHAL, April 6: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System today conducted verification of migrant workers under the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service).

The verification process was conducted at the under construction complex of the National Institute of Technology, Langol.

The JCILPS team was supported by volunteers and members of both its students and women wings.

Speaking to media persons, JCILPS assistant convenor (Organisation) Hayatur Rahman Yumkhaibam said such verification exercise of migrant owrkers under the section 6 of the Act which states prohibition against employment of Inter-state migrant workmen without registration, are conducted on a regular basis to check the uncontrolled influx of migrants into the State.

He continued construction at the NIT complex are presently undertaken by migrant workers from the neighbouring States who hold identity cards of only their respective States.

He said the police should look into it at the earliest.

Rehman appealed to all government concerned authorities including the State Labour Department to consider the issue with utmost concern so as to check the influx of migrants and safeguard the indigenous people of the State.
