Left parties kick-off campaign on socio-political and eco issues

IMPHAL, April 16: Promising to fight corruption under the present Congress government and the divisive and communal forces of the BJP in the State, the Coordinating Committee of Left parties in the State today kicked off a 15-day long campaign on the current socio-political and economic situation in the State ahead of the Imphal Municipal Corporation at the Manipur Press Club.

The campaign will reach out to various Imphal areas including at Khurai, Yaiskhul, Lilong, Wangkhei, Uripok, Singjamei, Patsoi, Laipham Khunou, Kshetrigao, Lamlai, Naoremthong and Keishampat respectively.

The Coordinating Committee of Left Parties includes the Communist Party of India/Manipur, Communist Party of India (M)/Manipur, Revolutionary Socialist Party/Manipur, All India Forward Bloc/Manipur and Communist Party of India (M-L) Liberation/Manipur, Socialist Democratic Party of India, Bahujan Samaj Party.

CPI State secretary Dr Moirangthem Nara said that the campaign is being organised with the hope to spread awareness among the general public on the current socio-political and economic situation in the State.

He asserted that the left parties will fight against the corrupted Congress Party and the communal and divisive forces of BJP which is functioning under the dictate of the right wing RSS.

It is high time for the Left parties with clear agendas to come together and understand each and every community in the State to fight against all ills, he added.

He further called for unity among the parties and to bring a free and fair election in the State.

Dr Nara also asserted that once the campaign is successfully organised in the valley districts ahead of the State General Assembly election which is likely to be held next year, it will be taken to other remote areas of the hill districts in the State as people there are also facing the same problems.

The programme was also attended by CPI-M secretary Sarat Salam, All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) secretary Khomdram Gyaneswor, secretary RSP Ningthoujam Ratan, CPI (ML) secretary Sapam Shamungou, RSP secretary K Manoranjan, Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) president Wahidoor Rahman and BSP president Kabita.
