MCPCR visits ‘Godman’ Panthou’s place

IMPHAL, Apr 20: The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken cognizance of the suo muto on the basis of media reports published in certain dailies stating that a number of children are being kept inside a complex namely Panthou Ishai Konung at Wangkhei Hijam Leirak, Imphal East without allowing them to return to their respective families.

In a press note, MCPCR said a team of the Commission along with CWC, Imphal East and DCPU, Imphal East visited the location today and inquired into the situation through personal verification of the children

The team took statement of the devotees of the place of worship where they were found organizing a function to be held from April 22 onwards to May 1.

It said the Commission, after assessing all the existing tense situation wherein the children and their parents have deep emotional and religious attachment to the place and the Godman named “Panthou”, a decision was reached that it would not be conducive to all concerned if forced evacuation / rescue of the children was effectuated in the midst of the prevailing tense situation.

Under the circumstances, it is directed to the concerned authority of the State to ensure all the medical needs, food, safety and security of the children lodged inside the complex by taking adequate measures during the intervening period till an appropriate directive is passed after taking into consideration all the facts and circumstances of the present case, according to the press note.
