Nungjei public meeting resolves to continue protest if miscreants involved in Apr 11 firing incident not booked

IMPHAL, April 20: A public meeting attended by representative of several civil organisations of both the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities unanimously condemned the April 11 incident of three miscreants firing towards a Meira Paibi Shanglen injuring at least 14 individuals including children and women.

The public meeting was held at the Nungei Mayai Leikai community hall.

The meeting organised by the JAC formed against the incident was attended by UCM vice president Sunil Karam, HERICOUN president Longjam Ratan, Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Lup president Memchoubi, KANGLAMEI president Yumnam Leirik Leima, Nupi Samaj general secretary Ramani, AMKIL president Sakhi, Tammi Chingmi president Momon, CLK president Ch Pakpi, ICHAL president T Ibemcha, COHR Phulindro Konsam, LOUSAL president Mutum Churamani, NIPCO president O Premjit, MAPI Council vice president N Bimol, ANJUMAN coordinator Haji Maulana, ANUMAN secretary Md Habibulla, AMMCOC spokesperson Md Kayum, Thoubal zilla parishad member Maulana Abdul Salam, Lilong social worker Md Anawar Hussein among others.

The meeting deliberated on the incident and further resolved that both the Meitei and the Meitei Pangal communities will work together to find the three culprits and punish them befittingly according to the law of the land.

It was also resolved that if the government and the concerned authorities fail to bring out the culprits within three days time, the people will stage strong agitations.

The meeting was attended by over 500 individuals including leaders of various civil body, villagers from surrounding Nungei, Mayang Imphal, Lilong etc.

It further resolved to open up a police outpost at Nungei.

The villagers of Nungei had met the Chief Minister of Manipur and apprised about their desire to open up police outpost, said a representative of the JAC.

Showing their desperateness of the villagers, the JAC member informed that an acre of land has been identified by the villagers at Nungei adding that in the process three household in the villages have given up their lands for the sake of the demand.

The affected household will be rehabilitated by the villagers at their own expenses, the JAC member further inform.
