IMPHAL, April 26: A patient has lodged a complaint against Dr Sudhiranjan Thenbaijam before the Medical Council of India, claiming that he had vomited a two-foot long bandage after undergoing a sinusitis operation conducted by the said doctor.
Speaking to media persons at the office of the Human Rights Initiative, the patient Sadokpam Somorjit Singh of Uchekon Takhok Mapal said he had lodge his complaint on January 20 which has been forwarded to the State medical council on April 7.
He further demanded that the council should take appropriate action against the said doctor for his negligence.
He alleged that when his relatives complained to the doctor of his vomiting the bandage, the doctor shouted at them in an uncalled for manner.
HRI executive director Wahengbam Joykumar said that many people of the State are poor and are unable to even effort the cost of medical treatment which is against the objective of the World Health Organisation.
He added that any patient who are poorly treated by any doctor or feel neglected while under their care can go to the civil court seeking compensation for the cost of treatment and at the same time complaint to the MCI.
He claimed that there are doctors who are negligent in their work; however, there is no one to take action against them, which he said is unfortunate.
He further continued that several organisations have asked the HRI and the patient to withdraw their case against the doctor.
This kind of pressurizing tactic from the said organisations is unfortunate, he said, adding that they will not withdraw at any cost.
