CHANDEL, April 20: Demanding relief assistance, the 2015’s Flood affected villagers of Chakpikarong area took Mass Rally at Chakpikarong Sub-Divisional Headquarters in Chandel District today.
Large numbers of Villagers took part in the rally organized by Village Chiefs of Chakpikarong area in associated with the Committee on Protection of Tribals Rights ( CoPoTR ) Chandel District.
After a Publice meeting held at Chakpirong’s Community Hall, the rally was commenced from Rungchang Village’s brigde and proceeded towards the office of Chakpikarong’s Sub-Divisional Officer by holding several placards where a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of the State was submitted through the SDO.
Speaking to the media persons, Ts. Beton Anal, Advisor CoPoTR told that natural disaster affected several villages of Chandel Districts particularly the villages in and around Chakpikarong area due to heavy rainfall in month of July and August 2015. Besides losing of several houses and other properties, the lives of 10 villagers were also loss in the disaster, he added.
He also maintained that the victims of the natural disaster did not receive any relief assistance despite the Union Home Minister Kiren Rijiju announced to provide over 8 crores of rupees as a relief during his visit at the time of disaster.
The Congress Government of the State did not provide any assistance to the disaster victims of the district except provided by some NGO’s.
As per the report of the District’s Deputy Commissioners, 39 lakhs worths relief materials were distributed to the victims of natural disaster in the district. But most of the victims claimed that they have not received any such relief material from the District Administration, he alleged.
BD. Monising Anal, President of Anal Naga Chief Association Chakpikarong also told that the Rally was organized in protest against the state government for failing to provide any assistance to the victims of the natural disaster which occurred last year.
While appealing to provide adequate assistance to the victims of the disaster, the Chiefs’ Association’s President also draw the attention of the State government for uplifting Chakpikarong which is one of the oldest and backward Sub-Division in the state at par with other Sub-division in term of development.
