IMPHAL, April 19: Namoijam Singhajit Singh of the Manipur Peoples’ Party has said that he has received a summon notice from the disciplinary committee of the party to be present before the committee on April 28 in connection with his suspension order.
However, the summon notice is unreasonable considering the fact that a case is still going on regarding office bearers of the party before the Civil Judge Senior Division 1, Imphal West, he told IFP.
He said he received the summon signed by convenor of the committee K Krishnachandra Singh on April 6 asking him to appear before the committee regarding his suspension order issued on March 19, 2015.
A faction of the party cannot issue a summon in the name of another faction when there is still a court case going on to decide the office bearers of the party, he added.
N Sovakiran who claims to be the president of the party by one faction had issued suspension order of three members on March 19, 2015 and issued another suspension order of two members on May 6, 2015, he said.
Issuing a summon notice by the Disciplinary Committee as part of initiating an enquiry of the suspension order issued by the party president means that the committee is above the party president, which is in fact laudable, he observed.
However, Sovakiran in his affidavit submitted to the Civil Judge Senior Devision-1 Imphal West on January 7 in connection with the ongoing case had declared that the party president is absolute and independent, he added.
He said Sovakiran’s term as the president of the party had ended in the earlier part of March this year and on January 30, the party had convened a conference and appointed a new president, he added.
