Tamenglong hit by thunderstorm

IMPHAL, April 19: Tamenglong district was hit hard by heavy rains and thunderstorm during the last four consecutive days.

Villagers claimed that power supply has been cutoff for the last five days which has plunged the district into darkness.

Many houses were blown away by the strong winds accompanied by rains and hailstorm today at Sonpram village under Tamenglong police station.

Villagers further maintained that the roof of a barrack of the Tamenglong Police Station was also blown away by strong winds in the morning, while half portion of the GI roofing sheet of the PWD’s Inspection Bungalow (IB) was also blown away by the strong winds.

Several places witnessed trees being uprooted and crops being damaged, informed the villagers.

Broken tree branches are also seen lying on many roads.

However as of now there is no report of casualty, the source added.
