Tangkhul bodies demand arrest of culprits, ex-gratia in Chinaoshang killing case

IMPHAL, April 26: The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal, Tangkhul Peoples’ Organisation and the Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long has submitted an ultimatum to the Chief Minister today setting a May 10 deadline to arrest and book the culprits involved in the abduction and killing of PA Chinaoshang of Pharung Shirntang village, Ukhrul District.

A joint press release of the organisations said the demands also include immediate grant of Rs 10 lakhs as ex-gratia, immediate arrangement of means of livelihood to the nearest of kin of Late PA. Chinaoshang in the form of employment, taking up preventive measures to check recurrence of such unwanted incident.

It said if the demands are not met within the set deadline, more intense agitations shall be launched and the same matter of “Law and Order” failure will be intimated and approached to the National Human Right Commission and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The statement said Chinaoshang a truck driver of Pharung Shimtang village, Ukhrul District was abducted at 11:30 midnight of March 3 from a makeshift camp at the quarry site at the bed of Shongphel Kuki Village.

He was working as a hired driver using his own truck by special contractor S Hungyo in the construction of Sanakeithel to Liesan PMGSY Part-I, it said.

His highly decomposed body was found buried 1 km off Lhangom village under Senapati District on April 18 as identified by Ngamminlien Baite who is under Ukhrul Police custody now, it said adding that the organisations had jointly conducted a sit in protest on April 20 at TSCI Chruch Road near LMS Law college Imphal which was participated by All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang (TNZL), and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS).
