CHANDEL, April 15: The Students’ Union of United College, Lambung staged a sit in protest at the college premises against shortage of teaching staff in Chandel District headquarters today.

The sit in protest was held under the banner “We demand replacement of 35 transferred teachers and we want quality education.”

Speaking at the protest site, a girl student said we are unable to complete even our annual syllabus due to shortages of teaching staff.

The shortage of teachers is causing a lot of irreparable loss in our learning process, she added.

Questioning as to how the State government can continue to neglect such an important issue, she wondered if the students of the hills don’t belong to the State.

She said no matter how hard the students strive to excel, it will not succeed without teachers.

Provide adequate teachers to our college, she further appealed.

Another student said 35 teachers from the 67 sanctioned posts of the college were transferred resulting in shortage of teachers in the college.

The students also warned to launch a series of agitations if the State government fails to redress their grievances at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Anal Lelruwl Tangpi- Anal Naga Students’ Union, Moyon Students Union and Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO ) also endorsed the agitation of United College’s Students Union and urged the State government to address the issue at the earliest.
