UNMM to apprise President of crime in State

IMPHAL, April 18: The United NGOs Mission Manipur will fax a brief record of the crimes in the State will be faxed to the President of India Pranab Mukherjee before his visit to the State to attend the Khongjom Day observation to be held on April 23, said convenor of the women committee of the mission Sobita Mangsatabam.

Speaking at a press meet held at the Manipur Press Club Imphal today, she said representatives of the union will also meet the President in person during his proposed visit to the families of the victim of extrajudicial execution by Indian Army, Paramilitary and police to put pressure to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act-1958 from the State.

She said the letter which will be faxed to the President will also include appeals for urgent action to expedite the investigation of the cases and punish the perpetrators under the rule of law of India, to repeal Armed Forces (Special) Powers Act 1958, to release AFSPA crusader Irom chanu Sharmila, urge to invite the special rapporteur on extrajudicial execution to visit Manipur as follow up of his last visit in the State in 2012.
