Villagers lament incompletion of IT Road to Langka part II road construction

IMPHAL, April 7: Langka Turel Area Development and Action Committee has lamented that the road construction under PMGSY to connect IT Road and Langka Part II which acts as the lifeline to more than 30 villages lying at the conjoining area of four sub divisions namely Tamei, Saitu, Kangpokpi and Tadubi has been neglected.

A team of media persons also visited the said area to report on the road construction process.

The road which starts from IT Road crosses through around 30 villages and connects to Kanchup, Chingkhong, Leimakhong and None at the other end.

Once it is completed, it will vastly benefit the more than 30 villages.

Chairman of the LTADAC Ch Phenri along with the IT Road to Tamei Joint Monitoring & Development Committee, Kangpokpi members interacted with the media team.

Phenri said that the said PMGSY bearing package no 6144 is of the 9th Phase of the scheme of 2014-15 and is undertaken by a contractor identified as L Ibocha Khuman said to be from Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and Khaningkhui of Old Lambulane.

However, the two contractors have never completed the road constructed, he said.

During the visit, the media team could witnessed that the 16 Km long road has not been properly Water Bound Macadam treated, but is was left with only preparation of sub-base’ where the stone chips are spread, the gravel applied has not been levelled with the use of rollers.

The chairman continued that the villagers have been extending full cooperation to the contractors and stones and gravel were supplied free of cost from the villages.

He said they were even provided protection from any threats.

Now, the villagers feel cheated by the two contractors, he said adding that the two have failed to return since November 2015.

He further appealed to the concerned authorities to complete the road at the earliest as it is the only lifeline of the villages.

Old Thengjang Village chief Paominlal Lhouvum said that the contractors were appealed to complete the road construction many times but they have failed to even visit the road.

He further appealed to the concerned authorities to complete the road before the rainy season or else the villagers will face many difficulties.

He continued the villagers had cooperated in the road construction tremendously by taking little labour charge for loading of sands, stones and breaking of stone boulders.

He further appealed the concern authority including the contractors to complete the road before the rainy season to avoid inconveniences.
