Woman survives husband’s knife attack

BISHNUPUR, April 2: In a scary incident, a man slashed his wife’s neck using a knife following an altercation at Moirang Konjengbam Leikai in Bishnupur district.

Luckily, the housewife identified as Konjengbam ningol Heman ongbi Thoibi Devi, 24 daughter of K Konjenba and Gomati Devi of Moirang Kiyam Leikai survived the knife attack.

She was attacked on her neck by her husband namely Hemam Milan alias Iroi, 30 son of Late H Badal and Amubi Devi.

Reports said the couple had a heated verbal feud over a petty issue when the husband arrived at their residence on March 29 night.

All of a sudden, Milan took out a knife and attacked on his wife’s neck leaving her badly injured. She was rushed to Moirang Charitable Hospital for treatment by nearby locals at around 9.30 pm.

The reports said Milan telephoned Robindro, husband of Thoibi’s elder sister from Moirang Thana Leikai at late midnight, saying he cannot stay with his wife anymore.

Addressing a press meet in connection with the incident at Thoibi’s residence, secretary of Moirang Kiyam Leikai Apunba Nupi Meira Paibi Lup Leishangthem Sakuntala said the news of the incident was passed to Thoibi’s family on next day evening.

She said Thoibi no longer want to live with her husband following the horrifying incident.

She demanded that the husband should be given stringent punishment for his cruel act and compensation should be provided to the injured housewife by Milan for bringing up her two children.

Sakuntala further demanded that consent to divorce of the couple be given by the concerned family court and that medical expense for Thoibi be borne by the husband’s family.

She also urged the authority concerned to intervene into the incident and ensure that the injured housewife gets women’s rights.

Thoibi is undergoing treatment at her parental house.
