World Malaria Day observed in remote Behiang Village

CHURACHANDPUR, April 26: A discussion on education and social change as part of the World Malaria Day 2016 was held at Behiang Village located near the Indo-Myanmar border in Churachandpur district yesterday.

The observation organised by the District Vector Borne Disease Control Society in collaboration with the Caritas India/ DISS with support from the local Behiang Youth Club was attended by District Malaria Officers and representatives of NGOs. Around 500 villagers attended the observation.

Speaking on the occasion, Churachandpur District Malaria Officer Dr Liankhojam Guite elaborated on the manner Malaria is contracted from one person to another.

He also spoke on the prevention aspect.

He said “Being located at a remote area, the village is prone to Malaria and proper use of mosquito nets is of utmost importance, he said and added there are plans to distribute the same in the near future.

District Project officer DSSS Caritas India Suanlian Tungnung highlighted the work and effort undertaken by the DSSS Caritas in the district particularly in connection with the Intensified Malaria Control Programme-3.

He further urged the people to co-operate and help them in their effort to serve the people.

Meanwhile, observation also pledged to work in unison to completely eradicate malaria.

Tungnung also presented a paper on the topic “Education and Health: Role of the parent”.

He said education should not be just about studying books, attending classes and getting a degree, but it should also be about being able to confront and solve problems utilizing one’s knowledge for the betterment of the tribe, State and the nation.

Churachandpur Government College, assistant professor Ginzamang T.Zomi also presented a paper on the topic “Education and it’s role in transforming the society”.

He emphasised on the supremacy of education as a tool for social transformation.

The World Malaria Day 2016 observation was also attended by the President of UZO Chinlunthang, ADC Churachandpur local member M.Hausuanthang, Major Neggi of 26 AR, Zou student leader Nengkhosoi and others from ZYA and also village chiefs of the area.
