Yairipok bandh called off

IMPHAL, Apr 29: Following MLA Th Shyamkumar’s assurance that the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Oinam Kunjamani of Yairipok Laimanai would be established soon, the JAC formed in connection with the controversial death has agreed to call off the ongoing Yairipok bandh from tomorrow.
The JAC Against the Hit and Run Case of Late Oinam Kunjamani Meitei submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today through MLA Th Shyamkumar.
The memorandum urged the Government to book the auto-rickshaw driver who knocked down Kunjamani.
Police would have already gathered certain clues and all efforts would be made to book the culprits, Shyamkumar.
He then appealed to the JAC to call off the bandh and claim the corpse in order to perform the last rites of the deceased.
In response, JAC convenor Moirangthem Surjit said that they would claim the body of Kunjamani and the Yairipok bandh which was enforced since April 25 would be called off.
However, the prohibition on auto-rickshaw passenger services operating along Yairipok routes will still remain in force, Surjit said.
Kunjamani sustained critical injuries after he was knocked down by an auto-rickshaw at around 10 am of April 18. He succumbed to the injuries on April 23 at Raj Medicity.
