Bandh on NH-37 in response to call of JCILPS

IMPHAL, May 11: As announced earlier by JCILPS, a total bandh was imposed on NH-37 from Wahengbam Leikai to Keithelmanbi by the people of respective localities pressing the demand for enforcement of ILPS in the State today.
Although, JCILPS had announced to clamp the bandh from 1 pm to 2 pm, a large number of bandh supporters started imposing the bandh well before 12 noon.

They blocked the road by burning tyres, placing electric poles, tree branches, bamboos and boulders etc in the middle of the road.
No vehicle was allowed to pass this stretch during the bandh.
At Patsoi Part-III, the bandh supporters forced an Assam Rifles convoy to return.
Later, a rally was taken out from Patsoi to Langjing. Most of the lanes and roads that connect with NH-37 were also blocked by bandh supporters at Patsoi.
The impact of the bandh could be witnessed at Sagolband Salam Leikai and Jiri parking. These areas wore a deserted look as no passenger vehicle came from Jiribam and other parts of NH-37.
The impact of the bandh could be seen at Tera Keithel, Lukram Leirak junction, Patsoi bazar, Moidangpok and Awang Sagoltongba areas as well.
Sit-in-protests demanding ILPS were staged at Sagolband Salam Leikai, Meino Leirak, Moirang Leirak, Sagolband Bijoygovinda, Mabudhou Mantri Leirak, Ingudam Leirak, Amudon, Tera Keithel, Lukram Leirak, Khamnam Leirak, Langjing, Patsoi, Awang Sagoltongba and Awang Khunou etc.
The students of Pole Star School, Patsoi Part 3, UJB School, Awang Khunou and Brighter Academy, Khumbong also staged demonstrations by making human chains in front of their respective schools and raised slogans like, ‘we want ILPS’, ‘we demand ILPS’, ‘remove non-locals from State’s electoral rolls’, ‘do not allow non locals to fight elections in the State’ and ‘convert the three Bills passed by State Legislative Assembly into Acts’.
Similar protest would be staged and one-hour bandh would be imposed from Konung Mamang to Irilbung tomorrow.
On the other hand students of Heritage Convent staged a sit-in-protest at Uripok Yambem Leikai in front of their school in support of ILPS movement spearheaded by JCILPS.
