BJP, Congress kick off IMC poll campaigns

Imphal, May 19: After all their candidates cleared the scrutiny of their nomination papers yesterday, BJP and Congress have jumpstarted their election campaign on high momentum today launching flag hoisting programmes at numerous places where leaders spell out the activities taken up by their parties for the welfare of the people.

The flag hoisting function for BJP ward number 13 candidate Oinam Romeo at Pishumthong Ningom Leirak was attended by Thongju MLA Th Bishwajit while MPCC president TN Haokip hoisted the INC flag for the party’s ward 7 candidate RK Jiten at Sagolband Amudon Leikai.

During his speech Bishwajit tried to convince the gathering that BJP is making an earnest effort for the betterment of Manipur. He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant announcement to develop the state into an IT hub in the interest of the youths whom he praised for possessing lots of talents. He also cited the sanction of Rs 100 crores for establishment of National Sports University in Manipur and selection of Mary Kom as a Member of Parliament to prove his point.

BJP has given emphasis on development of the state although it has been in power at the Centre for just two years but the Congress did nothing during 60 years in power at the Centre and 15 consecutive years in the state. As per the record Congress was embroiled in corruption, scandals and misappropriation of developmental funds given to the state and achieved the dubious distinction of making Manipur the most corrupted state in the country, he said.

If the people want to spend their lives in the same perilous situation they are living through at the moment then vote for Congress party but if they want development and a new Manipur vote for BJP, said Bishwajit.

Senior politician and BJP leader Okram Joy said if BJP wins the IMC election, then current problems can be solved with the help from the Central government. The serious rift seen between the people of hills and valley right now is one of the many problems created by the Congress, he said.

Meanwhile, speaking during the flag hoisting ceremony of RK Jiten, TN Haokip mentioned that the upcoming election will be the first one after the body has become a corporation. It is my strong belief that the people of Sagolband will ensure the success of INC candidate RK Jiten from ward number 7 along with his two WDC member candidates Megha and Inaoton for the welfare and development of the ward in near future.

MLA of Sagolband RK Imo said that development of wards is dependent on the generosity of the state government and Congress enjoys an advantage in this front as it is the party in power. It is a laudable achievement that the National Food Security Act was implemented in the state by the Congress enabling people to buy 5kg of rice at lowest rate of Rs 3 per Kg.

The coming IMC election is very important for Congress party because we are taking it as a semi final match for the 2017 Manipur state general election. If the people of Sagolband want him to be an MLA again in their constituency the party candidates at the IMC election should be victorious, said RK Imo.
