CM Ibobi says government keen on developing Imphal

IMPHAL, May 24: The State government is keen to develop Imphal city for which several developmental projects have been undertaken in Imphal and its surrounding areas, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said today.

He was addressing an election campaign held today at Kakhulong for Congress candidate for Imphal Municipal Corporation Ward No 24 of Sagolband G Bino.

The CM said the elected councilors and members of the IMC are responsible for the development of Imphal city.

He continued the Centre has already approved Imphal for the Smart City project.

He said the State cabinet has also approved to upgrade some panchayat areas around Imphal to municipality.

He also assured sufficient potable water for Imphal and said the government has already started replacing outdated water pipelines in the capital.

The Mapithel Dam constructed on the Thoubal River will be inaugurated within this year with the main objective of providing good drinking water in Imphal areas, he asserted.

The government, he said has started constructing retaining walls at river banks to stop rivers overflowing during the monsoon.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said under the Congress government, the people have witnessed development in the State for the past 15 years.

Since Imphal is the capital city, the government has been taking up schemes to develop the city, he said.

He further appealed to the people to support the INC candidates so as to improve the relation between the government and the public.

Today’s meeting was also attended by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president TN Haokip, MLA RK Imo, Congress members and workers participated in the programme.
