Drafting panel on ILPS holds first meeting

IMPHAL, May 11: The Drafting Committee constituted by All Political Party Committee on ILPS to exert pressure on the President of the country and Central leaders to give assent to the three bills passed in the State Assembly in its special session on August 31, 2015, had its first meeting today.

The Drafting Committee was formed during a meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on May 9.

Members of the committee include Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the portfolio of Home, secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Committee Dr M Nara, Ksh Shanta of CPM, O Joy of BJP and NCP MLA L Ibomcha Singh.

The committee will draft memorandums to be submitted by representatives of All Political Party Committee on ILPS to the Central leaders in Delhi.

MLA TN Haokip who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and M Tombi of JD (U) took part in the meeting.

The Drafting Committee will continue with its meetings for the next two days.

The bills which the political party committee will be pressing the Central leaders to give assent to it are The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015; The Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Shops & Establishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015.

After a lull, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCIPS) has been launching different forms of agitation demanding conversion of the three bills into act.
