Drugs seizure case from Imphal Airport O Henry appears before Court, next hearing on June 16

IMPHAL, May 25: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi’s nephew Okram Henry, who contested the last Assembly election on an MSCP ticket in Wangkhei AC, today appeared before the Special Court of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance in connection with the seizure of a consignment of drugs from Imphal Airport on January 11, 2013. CBI Special Crime Branch, Kolkata submitted chargesheet against Henry and four others regarding the case on April 18. Henry arrived at the Court complex along with his security escorts at around 11.30 am.
Another accused of the case identified as Sapam Angus alias Nanao alias Naoba also appeared before the Special Court. It may be mentioned that the Court summoned all the five accused to be present at the Court today. However, three other accused – Rajneesh Kumar, Md Rajauddin and Ramveer Tyagi failed to appear before the Court due to which the hearing of the case could not be held today. Ramveer Tyagi and Rajneesh Kumar are residents of Ghaziabad (UP). As such, the Court asked all the accused to come to the Court on June 16. During today’s Court proceeding, Advocate B Bimoljit filed a p/a and appointed himself as the defence counsel of Okram Henry and Sapam Angus. The authority concerned has sent a report to the Court following its summon that Ramveer Tyagi is not present at his official residence. Regarding the summon sent to Md Rajauddin, the Court is still awaiting a report from the authority concerned. Advocate M Digendra filed an application for dispensing with the attendance of Rajneesh Kumar. The Advocate submitted before the Court that Rajneesh Kumar could not appear in the Court due to illness.

The Court later adjourned the case till the next date of hearing which falls on June 16. The ND& PS Court registered the case as a special trial CBI case a few days after the charge sheets were filed. The Court then issued summons to all the accused to appear today. On January 11, 2013, a team of Special Intelligence Unit, Manipur under the supervision of Inspector K Ranjit along with his team led by Sub-Inspector E Ajit seized seven unattended carton boxes which were suspected to contain contraband drugs from Imphal Airport. The boxes were brought by a Air Deccan flight from Kolkata to Imphal. The carton boxes were later opened in the presence of some witnesses and the SIU team recovered Robocoff tablets, Seafied tablets and Respified tablets from these boxes. The seven carton boxes were seized by the SIU team and handed over to Singjamei police station OC.

Seven days after the incident, a team of Imphal West Narcotic Cell arrested Md Rajauddin on January 18. During preliminary interrogation, Md Rajauddin allegedly admitted that he brought the seized contraband drugs from Kolkata. He remained in judicial custody till January 24, 2013 as per the order of the ND&PS Court. The case was later handed over to CBI. According to the charge sheet submitted against the accused, Sapam Argus was supposed to receive the consignment. After a few days of seizing the consignment, SIU Imphal West was disbanded by the State Government with immediate effect. It is also mentioned in the charge sheet that Rajneesh Kumar is the proprietor of Mehak Pharmaceutical located at Mayur Vihar, New Delhi. He allegedly purchased huge number of Robocoff tablets and Respified tablets from different pharmaceutical companies and sold it issuing false invoices to different chemist shops. Ramveer Tyagi is the proprietor of IS Pharma and he purchased a huge amount of Seafied tablets from different pharmaceutical companies and sold it issuing false invoices to different medicine shops.
