IMPHAL, May 24: Girl students re-established their domination in the merit list of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, grabbing the top three spots after results for this year were announced today. However, boy students outperformed their girl counterparts in the overhaul pass percentage by 68.69 percent to 61.95 per cent.

The results were officially declared this afternoon at the office of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur by Controller of Examination K Tiken Singh in the presence of its secretary Dr Chingangbam Sarat and Dr S Mangijao.

Sohana Laishram of Nirmalabas School grabbed the first position ahead of her schoolmate Naorem Suzanna Devi while Maibram Vasundhara Devi of Little Flower School claimed the third position.

The continuous poor show of government schools in HSLC examination was reflected again by the fact that only one student from such schools featured in the list of top 25 rank holders. Laishram Amaraj Singh of Gokul High School, Bishnupur kept the flag flying for government schools claiming the 21st position in the merit list.

Altogether 32033 students had submitted their application forms to the board for appearing in the examination, out of them 31749 actually sat in the examination. The number of candidates who passed this year’s HSLCE was 20753 which correspond to a pass percentage of 65.37 per cent. The tally is a significant improvement from last year’s figure of 61.5 percent. The division wise break up of this year’s successful students is 6827 in the first division, 12987 in second division and 939 in the third division.

The results of 11 candidates were cancelled -five were expelled and six were held for impersonation.
