Govt mulls Nursing College at JNIMS

Imphal, May 12 : Chief Minister O Ibobi said that setting up a Nursing College at JNIMS is under active consideration and it is the desire of the Government to develop JNIMS into a centre of excellence.
He was speaking as the chief guest during International Nurses Day 2016 celebration at the Auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) which was organized by the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI) Manipur Branch and Nurses’ Association, TNAI JNIMS Unit under the theme “Nurses: A force for change: Improving health systems’ resilience”.
He said that there is a great demand for trained nurses from Manipur in South East Asian countries and the Japanese Embassy had even asked to supply 15,000 trained nurses from the State to work in Japan.
“This is because the quality of our nurses who serve patients with a kind and sympathetic heart, and their sacrifice in the profession is widely appreciated”, he added.
Saying that the service of the nurses in the health care delivery system is very important, he asserted that one should be proud of one’s job as far as one is doing it with sincerity and dignity.
Highlighting the importance of cleanliness in the health care system, he assured to look into the matter of reintroducing the provisions of Uniform Allowance and Risk Allowance for nurses. He also appealed to the nursing community to discharge their duty with a humane touch without hesitation.
Presiding over the function, Health and Family Welfare Minister DK Korungthang appreciated the role being played by the nurses in the health care delivery system and hoped that they will discharge their duty with sincerity.
He also appealed to them not to discriminate patients on the grounds of caste, creed, rural, urban or hill and valley.
As a part of the function, Nursing Advisors, Retired Nurses were felicitated and the Best Overall Nurse Award, Prizes for National Cleanliness Day held at JNIMS etc were also distributed.
Director, JNIMS Prof Deven Laishram, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS Prof L Ranbir, Joint Director Nursing, Medical Directorate, Govt of Manipur, Nursing Superintendent, JNIMS P Landhoni Devi and president TNAI Manipur Branch Th Nandarani Devi were the guests of honour.
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year all over the world on May 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale- the Lady with the Lamp.
The International Nurses Day was also celebrated today at Jubilee Hall, RIMS.
The programme organised by the College of Nursing, RIMS was held under the theme ‘Nurses: A force for change: Improving health systems’ resilience.’
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Health and Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang said that nurses play a key role in promoting the health sector.
He said that nurses are discharging their duties day in and day out.
Exhorting the nurses to carry on their duties sincerely, the Minister said that service to humanity is service to God.
The programme was attended amongst others by Director of RIMS Prof Ch Arunkumar, MS of RIMS Prof M Amuba, Registrar of MNC, Medical Directorate Kh Ratna and Principal, College of Nursing, RIMS, Prof H Jamuna.
