IMPHAL, May 7: The 42-hour public curfew imposed by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has ended peacefully today.

The JCILPS imposed the public curfew from midnight of May 5 demanding implementation of inner line permit system and ended at 6 pm today.

For the second day, all the business establishments including shops, hotels, main markets of Imphal, educational institutes, remained closed during the curfew period.

All vehicles except those belonging to the security forces stay off roads which included inter-state and inter districts passenger services.

The protestors continued to block roads in several parts of Imphal and also staged sit-in demonstration including Nagamapal, Thangmeiband, Singjamei, Moirangkhom etc.

Just before the curfew came to end, a large number of women protestors from Uripok came out in the Imphal-Kangchup road, chanting slogans and bearing placards which says “Convert the three passed bill into act”, “Implement ILP in Manipur”, “Materialised the agreement signed between JCILPS and Manipur,” “Deny voting rights to non-locals” etc

The attempt of the protestors to further proceed was foiled by the police.

After having detained for a brief period the womenfolk retreated to their respective areas.
