JCILPS bans non-locals in Manipur from contesting in Imphal Municipal Council polls

IMPHAL, April 30: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) today conducted a drive to check on the non-local populace who are enrolled in the voter list of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) areas.

Speaking to media persons in connection with the drive late in the evening today at its office, JCILPS convener Kh Ratan said that the committee during its drive found the numbers of non-locals in electoral lists greater than the indigenous population in many polling stations.

They might have the intentions to contest in the elections in the near future and will give great effect to the indigenous peoples, yet we should fight against it, he said.

Concerned over the influx in an alarming rate of non-locals in the Imphal area, Ratan demanded the authority concern to delete illegal voters and banned to contest the non-locals in the elections.

Ratan pointed further spelled out the polling stations dominated by the non-locals in Imphal areas are which includes polling stations under Thangmeiband A/C Ward No-25, in polling station (PS)-1, out of 601 total voter enroll list 151 are non locals; PS-2, 755 voter enroll list 247 are non locals; PS-3, 735-714; PS-4, 231-208; PS-5, 492-434; PS-6, 273-266; PS-7, 351-325; PS-8, 505-505.

In Sagolband AC Ward No-24, PS-1, 254-2; PS-2, 501-39; PS-3, 414-139; PS-4, 621-556; PS-5, 443-366; PS-6, 734-533; PS-7, 716-174 and PS 374-78.

In Wangkhei Ward No 26, PS-1, 719-547; PS-2, 841-689; PS-3, 572-521 and PS-4, 720-653 while in Wangkhei AC Ward No-23, PS-6, 595-595 and PS-7, 588-575 respectively.

The convener informed the general public to participate in the one-day people’s convention on ILPS issues on May 2 at Manipur Dramatic Union, (MDU) hall at around 10 am.
