IMPHAL, May 25: The students’ wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System set May 27 as deadline for the representatives of the All Political Parties Committee to meet the President and Prime Minister of India and get their assent to the three bills.
Speaking to media persons at their office, Convenor of the students’ wing Oinam Nandababu warned that failure of the all parties committee to meet the deadline will invite severe forms of agitations including storming residences of political party leaders and lockdown of their offices.
He said, as part of the ongoing movement demanding implementation of the ILPS in the State, it will be taking up other forms of agitations in the State. They have taken note of the public reservations on bandhs and general strikes, he added.
He said, political parties have failed to exert due pressure to the Central government to give assent to the three bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31, 2015.
It is really unfortunate that the political leaders are unable to even protect the indigenous people of the State, he lamented.
He elaborated, while the ruling Congress has neglected from taking any initiative to get the President’s assent, the BJP is neglecting the issue.
These acts of the political leaders have only delayed the enactment of the bills, he continued.
Nandababu observed firing of tear gas shells, mock bombs and lathi-charging the protestors will not bring any solution to the issue, instead the government all other leaders should work unitedly towards achieving the aspiration of the people.
All the politicians seem more interested in the upcoming IMC election rather than the issue on ILPS, he said.
The student wing leader also strongly condemned the attitude of the State BJP.
He said during yesterday’s confrontation during the attempt of the protestors to shut down the BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek, a BJP State member had shouted to police instigating them to beat up the agitators black and blue.
He further warned the political parties from acting in such manner in the future.
He further demanded the State government to unconditionally release the three students identified as Pebam Bruce of Churachand Higher Secondary School, Bidyaluxmi of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School who were arrested by police on May 24 and Longjam Brojen of DM College of Science who was arrested on May 25.
Students of Tamphasana Higher Secondary School also strongly condemned the act of police personnel.
She said that they are ready for mass court arrest if the police personnel want to arrest them, however their agitations will not stop unless their demands are met.
