Mayai Lambi bandh underway

IMPHAL, May 31: The indefinite bandh clamped in Mayai Lambi from May 30 against the arrest of five volunteers of Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) by police on the alleged charges of pulling up two non-local traders is underway with no reports of untoward incidents.

The two traders were pulled up by volunteers of the association for mixing Tata salt with other low quality brand.

KSA is demanding unconditional release of the five volunteers who were sent to jail.

Bandh supporters imposed road block at Ningthemcha Karong, Samurou, Wangoi and Yumnam Huidrom along Imphal-Mayang Imphal road by placing wood logs and stones.

Passenger and private vehicles stayed off the roads due to the bandh. Pedestrians and vehicular movement in the areas was also disrupted.

The five volunteers of the association who were arrested by the police are Sukham Bidyananda (general secretary), Khullakpam Sanjoy (deputy secretary), Langoljam Rajesh (member), Yumnam Luwang (member) and Nongmaithem Biren (member). They were arrested on May 27 and sent to jail the following day.
