Rk Imo urges to pressurize Centre for implementing ILP

IMPHAL, April 6: Sagolband MLA Rk Imo Singh came out strongly against the indifferent attitude of the Central Government for suppressing the three bills which were passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly unanimously.

The MLA stated this during the 224th Birth Anniversary celebration of Maharaja Narasingh held at Sagolgband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai. It was organised by the Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee, Imphal and Shri Shri Gopinathjee Temple Board, Purana Bazaar, Nongmeibung today.

The MLA highlighted the urgent need to pressurize the Centre proactively by forming a committee cutting across political party and with JCILPS.

He stated that the committee should highlight the pros and cons to implement the bills which was passed on August 31, 2015- the Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015; the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (MLR&R) (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishment (MS&E) (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015.

He lamented the silence of the Centre for not disclosing the steps taken up regarding implementation of the bills, and stated a collective need to urge the Prime Minister to implement the bills at the earliest.

For the memorial works to be implemented for Maharaj Narasingh , Rk Imo Singh said that a meeting was held with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, MLA Rk Anand; Minster of Agriculture,Md Nashir to preserved and promote the legacy of the Maharaja.

He urged the concerned department to take up steps to develop this site and construct a statue, andfor the Manipur Government to extend needed support to promote the legend.

Speaking at the function, director of Art & Culture department, Dr K Suhsila Devi said that she will try best from her personal level to promote about Maharaja Narasingh.

She urged the Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee to write a letter to develop this site which will be forwarded to Superintendent of the Central Archaeology Department to take further steps.

Maharaja Narasingh was among one of the legendary figures to save Manipur from the colonial yoke of the British Empire, she said, but his commemoration function seems to be conducted for name sake only.

It is important to protect and promote the history of such legendary individuals who sacrificed their lives for Manipur, she said.

The director stated that she will try to organize the Birth Anniversary celebration of Maharaja Narasingh next year in a more prominent manner.
