KOHIMA, May 23 (NEPS): President of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Dr. Shurhozelie said they were still expecting that something might come out from the ongoing political negotiations between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) before the next Nagaland General elections due early 2018.
The NPF Chief was replying to a query by presspersons here at the NPF Central Office on Monday whether his ruling party would do well in the coming State General elections to be held in 2018 following much unwanted political development taking place in the party.
There is a general feeling that some kind of unwanted political development might take place in the State following the suspension of Nagaland MP Neiphiu Rio from the NPF following his anti-party activities. Before him, senior NPF legislator and former Minister Imkong L Imchen was suspended from the NPF for his anti-party activities.
Rio, however, denied the charges in his reply to the Show Cause notice served to him. He even asked the Party to withdraw the Show Cause notice served to him.
Dr. Shurhozelie, while replying to the press, made it clear that he had no personal ill-feelings or grudge against Rio or for that matter anybody. He said the decision was taken based on the recommendation forwarded by the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the NPF. “I am only protecting the Constitution of the Party,” he said.
On his party’s prospects in the coming State General elections in 2018, he said they were still expecting some kind of solution from the ongoing political negotiations between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) before the elections. “We still believe that the NSCN (IM) group is doing their best while trying to hammer out,” he said. “In the case of nothing comes out from the political negotiations between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) before the coming State General elections, then we as a political party will be prepared to face the elections.”
