Tamenglong organisations to intensify stir against failure to restore road connectivity

TAMENGONG, May 4: Several frontal organization of Tamenglong on Tuesday strongly condemning the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), warned to intensify stir against zero progress of restoration of Khongsang-Tamenglong road.

In this regards a meeting was convened at PWD IB Tamenglong headquarter by the Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong to discuss about the deplorable and unbearable condition of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.

Prominent leaders from Traders, Association, District Concern Development Association, Zeliangrong Students’ Union Tamenglong District, Chairmen Association Tamenglong, Driver Association, etc. attended the meeting.

The public meeting strongly condemned the M/S Woodhills Infrastructure Ltd, National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and contractor for betraying the people of Tamenglong.

It may be mentioned that on December 3, 2015, the district administration in the presence of National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), sub- contractor, public leaders’ in an official ceremony inaugurated the temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.

For temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways MoRTH has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 13,23,91,325 in the year 2012.

M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd was given the tender with the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) as sole Project Implementing Unit (PIU).

Further today’s meeting also resolved to exempt bank and allow to re-open on the request of public, manager. However, all other government offices in Tamenglong will remain shut indefinitely till demands are met in letter and spirits.

Stating that the public has lost its faith on M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd. and the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), the meeting demanded to hand over the restoration work of Tamenglong- Khongsang road to BRTF.

The meeting also further resolved to intensify its ongoing agitation while strongly condemning the indifferent attitude of the state government over the issue. At the same time, strongly condemned the 23rd Assam Rifles posted at Khongsang village for assaulting the bandh volunteers at Khongsang recently.
