IMPHAL, May 27: Police arrested six executives of Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) for pulling up two non-locals who allegedly filled Tata Salt packets with Everyday brand salt to sell it to the public. Before his arrest by the police, KSA general secretary Sukham Bidyananda while speaking to reporters at their Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai office said that they saw some torn packets of Tata salt lying near a grocery shop at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai at around 12.30 pm today. When the students queried the shopkeeper identified as Rajesh Kumar Yadav (28) of Khagaria (Bihar) about the torn packets, they came to know that the Everyday brand salt has been put in Tata salt packets to sell it to the public, Bidyananda said. In the local market, a packet of Tata salt costs Rs 11 while the price of Everyday salt is Rs 8 per packet.

Bidyananda further said that Everyday salt is heavier than Tata salt. On further questioning, the students came to know that the salt was supplied by one Dasharath Prasad (48) of Telipati, he said. Later, both the non-locals were pulled up along with around 15 kgs of salt by the students to bring them before the media at KSA office, Bidyananda said. Bidyananda said that cases of adulteration of tea and other eatables had already been detected at Telipati in the past as well.

Later, a police team arrested six KSA executives including Bidyananda in connection with the case.
