All pol parties meet resolves to draft new Bill

IMPHAL, Jun 25: A meeting of all political parties was held today in the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and the meeting agreed to draft a new Bill for protection of indigenous people of Manipur.
The meeting which began at 3 pm was chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
With the Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015 withheld by the President of India, participants of the meeting felt that a new Bill needs to be prepared to protect the indigenous people of Manipur immediately.
It was agreed that the main object of the new Bill should be acceptable to all sections of the society.
After threadbare discussion, the meeting resolved to entrust legal and constitutional experts to draft a new Bill which will enable the State Government to enact a new legislation to protect and preserve indigenous people of Manipur looking into all aspects of the hill people and valley people of Manipur.
Due consultation should be made with all stake holders of both the hills and the valley before finalization of the new draft Bill, reads the second resolution.
The third resolution of the all political parties meeting resolved to introduce the new Bill in the next session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Claiming that due process for preparation of the new Bill has been initiated, representatives of different political parties present at the meeting appealed to all the citizens of Manipur to maintain peace and extend full cooperation to the efforts of the all political parties and the State Government towards accomplishment of the exercise to have a new legislation.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the 300th day of tribal movement, JCILPS has conveyed solidarity to the be- reaved families of the nine people killed in Churachand-pur firing last year.
A press release issued by JCILPS publicity affairs committee convenor Ksh Somorendro further clarified that the ongoing civil movement for enacting a constitutional safeguard for all indigenous people of Manipur is not related with any insurgent group.
