Ex-PREPAK chairman, driver found killed inside 7 MR complex

E-Front-__-FSL-and-Police-envestigating-the-site-2-735x400IMPHAL, Jun 22: Bullet riddled bodies of Ningombam Nabachandra alias Nongdrenkhomba, who had surrendered as the chairman of banned PREPAK outfit, and his driver were found today inside the quarters of 7 MR complex located at Khabeisoi.
Reports culled from the spot said that the bodies were found today around 10.30 am when the wife of Nabachandra, Indira, went inside their room after he reportedly failed to pick phone calls since last night.
IGP Clay Khongsai and a team of Imphal East district police rushed to the spot on learning the information. A team of Manipur Police Forensic Science Laboratory probed the incident.
Local source suspected that the two might have been shot last night when a religious festival was performed within the 7 MR campus.
Ningombam Nabachandra (58) hailed from Thangmeiband Lourung Purel while his driver Leishangthem Sanjit (41) was from Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai.
The body of Nabachandra was found in the bed room of Type 2 quarter No 3 while the body of his driver was found in the kitchen. Bullet injury was found at the right side of Nabachandra’s head while bullet marks were found at the chin and chest of his driver Sanjit.
Nabachandra was staying in the quarters along with one Potshangbam London alias Chingkhei (48) of Takyel Khongbal, the former finance secretary of PREPAK, who surrendered along with him.
London left the quarters on June 20 for a pujah of his child.
Nabachandra is survived by his wife and two daughters.
It may be mentioned that Nabachandra and London surrendered during a ceremony attended by the Chief Minister on Dec 15, 2014 at 1st MR Banquet hall. Apart from them, the chairman of KCP (KK Nganba) Chongtham Manglemjao along with 58 cadres laid down arms on the same day.
Meanwhile, driver Sanjit is not related with the outfit in any way. He drove the Cheverolet Beat car of Nabachandra. He made his living also by driving a water tanker.
Family said that there were instances when he did not return home for two/three days. He is survived by his wife, Radha, a son and a daughter.
The bodies are kept at JNIMS morgue while a case has been registered with Heingang PS and investigation is going on.
