International Yoga Day observed across State

SCERT, Govt of Manipur organised the Day at the Multipurpose Hall of SCERT today.
Joint Secretary SCERT Kholia was the chief guest of the observation while the Director SCERT Dr M Minakumari was the functional president. Joint Director SCERT Jim G Thingujam, S Anandi and Head of Office Prof A Romen attended as the guests of honour. Officer on Special Duty Dr Nandini also attended the observation.
Speaking at the programme Kholia emphasized on the importance of observing such important day and regularly practising yoga for better health. She extended her gratefulness to the staff of SCERT and other department for participating in such observation.
She further stressed on the origin of Yoga and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s role in declaring June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
Dr M Minakumari spoke on the benefits of practising yoga on a regular basis. She added that practising yoga transforms the body and mind bringing the physical, mental and spiritual for our own benefit.
It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with oneself, the world and the nature, she added.
It may be mentioned that yoga is a 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice having its origin in India.
On December 11 in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
At the same time, North Eastern Council (NEC), Ministry of DoNER, Govt of India, celebrated the 2nd International Yoga Day joining millions across the country and the world. CK Das, IAS (retd), Member NEC delivered a lecture on Yoga to the officers and staff of the NEC, informed a statement.
Speaking on the occasion, Ram Muivah, IAS, Secretary, NEC spoke on the benefits of Yoga and how practising the same ensures well being of the mind and the body.
PKH Singh, adviser (T&C), NEC demonstrated a few Yoga Asanas which was enthusiastically followed by the officers and staff of the NEC. All the participants have expressed keen interest to practice Yoga regularly, it added.
Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal and Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Thoubal jointly observed the 2nd International Day of Yoga at Thoubal Ningthou Lai Haraopham, Ningombam. Over 1400 people from all walks of life took part in the observance, a statement informed.
Thongam Shyamo Singh, Chairperson, Thoubal Municipal Council; Ningombam Ningthemjao Singh, Bharat Swabhiman Trust Prabhari, Thoubal District and Dr Jayantakumar Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal attended the observance as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. The theme of the observance was ‘Yoga for Harmony and Peace and for Body and beyond’.
A mass yoga demonstration was conducted under the leadership of the yoga masters Sarangthem Priyokumar, Ningombam Amarjit, Arjun Singh, Memcha Devi and Kishan Singh.
BJP Manipur Pradesh, Thoubal district and BJP Khangabok Mandal also jointly observed International Yoga day at Khangabok new market. The programme was graced by former BJP Manipur Pradesh president Sh Shantikumar Sharma and BJP, Thoubal district president L Deven.
All the units of BJP under the district took part in the observance.
The day was observed at various other places like the 3rd IRB Battalion Headquarters, Khangabok -Wangbal; Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Thoubal organised by the school’s NCC cadet; Yairipok Yambem Leikai community hall; Kumbi bazar mandap; Healing Point Prayer Hall, Nature Cure Hospital Machin Manao Chinglak, Kakching Chumnang.
Nehru Yuva Kendra, Chandel, also organised a similar function to observe International Day of Yoga at the multipurpose hall of United College, Lambung, Chandel. The programme was attended by 250 youth leaders, college students and women.
Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel was the chief guest of the observance. S Shambhunath Singh, Additional District Magistrate, Chandel and Dr BD Thumdal, Principal, United College, Chandel attended as the president and guest of honour respectively.
Yoga Guru Okram Inaobi Singh was honoured at the function. He lead the mass yoga demonstration of the day.
Ksh Robert Singh, DC Chandel spoke on the importance of practicing yoga. He said yoga keeps our body and mind healthy.
S Sambhunath Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandel talked about the origin of the yoga.
Handbooks and CD cassettes on Yoga were distributed as part of the programme. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from W Rakhesh Singh, a statement issued by W Ibohal Singh, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Chandel, informed.
Similar programme was held at Phunal Maring community hall, Chandel, under the aegis of Youth Development Services, Wangjing Awang Leikai. Chandel district AYUSH Medical Officer Dr M Rajkumar attended the programme.
At Senapati, the day was observed at 35 AR Maram Battalion Head Quarter, Maram attended by ex-servicemen, Army, JCOs, students, civilians.
The day was also observed the different places under Bishnupur district.
