IMPHAL, Jul 18: The Hmar Students’ Association (HSA), Joint Hqtrs Churachandpur and Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur have said that they are not for a prolonged agitation on an issue which is no longer relevant and added that imposing a social boycott on MLAs by a movement which no longer enjoys popular appeal is nothing but a malicious design to serve the interest of a few.
HSA and KSO held a joint meeting on July 17 to deliberate a host of issues concerning the district of Churachandpur, informed a joint statement.
“The KSO-Ccpur & HSA-CCpur fail to understand the logic behind the social boycott imposed by JACAATB on the incumbent MLAs when the contentious Bills had already been returned by the President of India and the Government of Manipur has given the assurance that a new Bill will be drafted only and after prior consultation with all the stakeholders concerned.
The HSA and KSO find the decision to still impose a social boycott on the elected MLAs inhuman, vindictive and completely bereft of logic when the three Bills have not seen the light of the day. The raison d’etre of the JACAATB is no longer there, with the President of India refusing to give his assent and returning the Bills,” the joint statement said.
At the same time, the KSO and HSA feeling the hardship faced by hundreds of commuters on the slush filled and pot-holed ridden dirt-roads linking the district with adjacent districts specially Churachandpur- Sugnu road should be repaired by the authority concerned without any further delay; since the road has been repaired by local residents at their own cost.
The HSA and KSO also said that the educational insitutions in the district – private or Government, should be free from any disturbances from State or Non-State actors; they should be allowed to function as an “oasis of learning’ without any hindrances whatsoever from any quarters.
The two student bodies affirmed to work in tandem and keep a close vigil on the implementation of schemes and projects in the Government run schools of the district, and will not be lying low if any element of corruption or nepotism of any sort is found or detected.
