Free treatment for needy: JNIMS Director

IMPHAL, July 8: Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, JNIMS is offering free medical treatment and life saving drugs to the needy, Director of the hospital Prof Deven Laishram announced today.

Prof Deven said, free treatment and life saving drugs for casualties will be distributed from 8 pm to 7 am in the hospital every day.

He further said 12 Life Saving Drugs have been identified to be given free during the period.

Speaking to mediapersons inside the hospital’s mini conference room Prof Deven said, JNIMS being a government hospital it is expected to provide medical facilities to the general public.

He said the JNIMS authority is putting all efforts to provide proper medical facilities to the people at all times.

Elaborating further, he said people with BPL cards can avail reimbursement of their medical bills upto Rs 1 lakh under the Manipur State Illness Assistance Fund.

He added, reimbursement upto Rs. 35,000 under the scheme can be approved by the concerned DC.

He continued many have benefitted free treatment and free supply of drugs at JNIMS.

Prof Deven said the concerned authorities also crosscheck whether the intended beneficiaries are getting free drugs from the hospital.

There are no specific criteria for identifying beneficiaries but anyone living under the Below Poverty Line, those recommended by media houses, CSOs or NGOS is entitled to the benefits, he said.
